Harold Pelly was born on the 28th February 1863, son of Sir John Henry Pelly 2nd Bt. and Blanche Elizabeth Vincent daughter of Sir Frederick Vincent 11th Bt. Was educated at Harrow and Christ Church, Oxford (B.A.). Became 4th Baronet (cr. 1840) on the death of his half brother in 1877. Married Annie M. Poore, second daughter of Major R.Poore of Old Lodge, Salisbury, Wiltshire in 1889. He was J.P. for Dorset & Wiltshire. Lt. 1 Wilts R.V. 1882-7; Lt. R.Wilts Yeom, 1887-92; Capt. 1st. Vol. Bn. Dorset Regt. Resided at Thorngrove House, Common Mead Lane, Gillingham, Dorset and later (sometime pre-1942) at Lytchett Hard, Upton, Poole, Dorset. He died on 3rd November 1950.
NB: To avoid confusion, the family originated from Upton, Essex (now in East London) where John Henry Pelly, Esq is recorded C.1839.

Thorngrove House Thorngrove House was opened as a Barnardo's Home in July 1948 providing accommodation for girls, later to become mixed. It closed January 1964. Now named (2007) 'Osho Leela'. The owners provide Osho and Humaniversity Meditations, Workshops in Bioenergetics and Yoga. Music Festivals & etc.
